I have a PC reverted to Win 7 due to huge problems after three months of trouble-free Win 10 performance. Have had no issues for five months now, but recent update? After power-up, and a few minutes of ops, if I want to put it to sleep the yellow warning triangle advises that I am to shut off the computer, ostensibly for an installation of updates.
I have done a system restore, downloaded malicious software removal and run it with no hits, and run the auto troubleshooter which apparently found and repaired two problems. Did a shut-down, worked for a few minutes after startup, and that darned icon is till showing beside the shut down button!!! It is windows update shield waiting to restart the computer to update critical system files. Once you have restarted the computer then the updates will be automatically installed on the computer before booting to the desktop.
If those updates are installed on the system then the Yellow exclamation mark will automatically disappear. You might be experiencing this problem because you shutdown the computer instead of restarting.
Update your windows and check whether the issue is resolved. Until the updates are installed and configured properly windows will attempt to restart the computer and update shield will appear. The yellow Update shield will stop appearing after the successful configuration of installed Windows Update. Hence, ensure that all the downloaded updates are installed and configured properly. Again, I have done extensive malware diagnostics, and run two different tools, and one of the online auto troubleshooters claimed to have fixed two errors.
Still, though, the problem persists. I have now 'restarted' twice on your advice, for which I am grateful btw, but the yellow triangle still appears just now when I checked by clicking on the start button. I have the yellow triangle problem on my Win7 machine.
Fix It does not fix it and the only available update shown is Win And the option to show Hidden Updates no longer works. A recent article says Windows messages to upgrade are getting increasingly aggressive which they are. Is it possible that this persistent yellow warning is part of MS's campaign to upgrade? I do not want to upgrade either my Win7 or Win8. Jane, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised that it is one of two things: an aggressive and not terribly sophisticated or subtle move on MS' part to force reluctant delinquents to comply with their wishes, or it is simply a corrupted file that gives a spurious notification.
You are putting off the inevitable either way. It's like the old aphorism that so many people misunderstand: Fight and run away, and live to fight another day. All others to today are listed as successful in the list of updates. So, I'm going to work on that, including uninstalling and reinstalling Outlook if necessary. I don't use it, but perhaps that's the problem???? The issue is now moot. Got onto live chat with MS tech who disabled the update notification, but ended up updating to Win Jane in Toronto.

You see, after I attempted to reset my pc with a BitLocker encrypted drive, I wasn't able to access my stuff anymore without entering my recovery key. This was, of course, a hassle, because it was my second drive I would put my downloads, documents, and other stuff that I didn't need on my OS drive.
I found a temporary fix, but then it showed the triangle. This fix would also need to be done every time before I shut down my computer. Not very user friendly… in settings it wouldn't allow me to decrypt a single drive by itself either. In reply to Umesh P's post on November 11, Since I can't work in safe mode, i have removed a few start up items in MSCONFIG and gone back and enabling most of the services since there wasn't much of a difference when i disabled the services It seems like I don't have problems with memory management until I start to multi-tasking, normally, i usually run iTunes, Excel, Word, Outlook and 3 tabs in one IE7 Window while listing items on eBay.
